Virginia Governor Youngkin Urged to Withdraw Support for Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind Project
The National Legal and Policy Center is urging Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin to withdraw his support for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project, citing national security concerns and contradictions to his taxation and deregulation policies. The Interior Department recently paused the project for 90 days, and NLPC, along with other organizations, is involved in a lawsuit to halt it under the Endangered Species Act due to potential threats to the North Atlantic right whale. As a Dominion Energy shareholder, NLPC is also advocating against the company's investments in renewable energy.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) is urging Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin to withdraw his support for the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project before his term ends on January 17, 2026. On December 22, 2025, the Interior Department implemented a 90-day pause on CVOW due to national security concerns.
NLPC argues that supporting the project contradicts Youngkin's stance on taxation and deregulation. The organization, along with the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow and the Heartland Institute, is involved in a lawsuit aiming to halt CVOW under the Endangered Species Act, citing threats to the North Atlantic right whale. NLPC is also a Dominion Energy shareholder, advocating against the company's investments in wind and solar energy.
