Volkswagen to Launch New Electrified Models in China to Compete Locally
Volkswagen plans to introduce over 20 new electrified models, with three debuting in April 2026. This strategy aims to enhance its market position amidst strong competition from local Chinese brands.

Volkswagen is set to unveil three new electrified vehicle models in China within the next two weeks, starting with the ID.UNYX 08 on April 16. This full-size SUV utilizes local technology from Xpeng and batteries from Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd (CATL).
Following this, the ID.ERA 9X, developed with SAIC Motor, will feature a world-first autonomous driving solution and is scheduled for debut at the Beijing Auto Show on April 25. The third model, ID.AURA T6, will be presented on April 24, equipped with a Lidar-based driver assistance system created in partnership with Horizon Robotics.
Volkswagen's operational profit in China fell by 44% in 2025, highlighting the intense competition from domestic brands. The company aims to counteract this by launching more than 20 new electrified models designed for local consumers.
