Walker, MI City Commissioner Thom Burke Resigns, Applications Open for 1st Ward Vacancy

Thom Burke, the City of Walker's 1st Ward Commissioner, has resigned to accept a new professional role outside Michigan. The city is accepting applications to fill the vacancy until January 16, with the appointment scheduled for January 26.
Burke was appointed in 2021, following the resignation of Marv Raap, and represented a portion of Walker including Alpine Ave. west of Elmridge Drive. He served over 30 years in the U.S. Navy and was involved in public service through the city commission and various committees. His focus included public safety, fiscal responsibility, and long-term planning for balanced growth, housing, green space, and recreation.
