Wealthsimple Achieves $10 Billion Valuation Amidst Canadian Startup Boom in 2025
Toronto-based fintech Wealthsimple attained a $10 billion valuation in October 2025 after raising $750 million, significantly ahead of its December 2028 asset goal of $100 billion. The company, co-founded by Michael Katchen, aims for $1 trillion in assets by 2034.
Clio, another notable startup, raised $500 million in November, valuing it at $5 billion, with plans for AI-focused global expansion. Richmond, B.C.-based UniUni, a delivery service, closed a $70 million Series D round and aims to expand its North American operations.
Photonic, a quantum computing firm from Coquitlam, B.C., raised $180 million and is involved in DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative. Other startups include Dominion Dynamics, Nord Quantique, and Spellbook, all securing significant funding for technological advancements in 2026. The Canadian government announced nearly $82 billion for defense, encouraging new ventures in the sector.
