Westinghouse and Tetra Tech Partner for Nuclear Projects in Ontario

FUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER

Westinghouse Electric Company has entered a memorandum of understanding with Tetra Tech Canada to collaborate on the development of AP1000 and AP300 reactor projects in Ontario. Tetra Tech Canada will utilize its engineering expertise and clean energy capacity in North America and the UK to enhance Westinghouse’s domestic project development capabilities.

The Ontario government requested Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to explore new nuclear energy generation at Wesleyville in January 2024, following local support. OPG has submitted the Initial Project Description for a new nuclear plant at Wesleyville, marking a regulatory milestone in the impact assessment process.

No reactor technology has been chosen yet, but options include Westinghouse's AP1000. Westinghouse's AP1000 is the only operational advanced Generation III+ reactor with passive safety systems. The AP300, launched in May 2023, aims for design certification by 2027 and operation by 2033.
