Westinghouse Electric Company Joins Texas Nuclear Alliance to Enhance Nuclear Energy Landscape

NUCLEAR

On August 12, 2025, the Texas Nuclear Alliance (TNA) announced Westinghouse Electric Company as a founding member, enhancing its commitment to advancing nuclear energy in Texas. Westinghouse, a leader in nuclear technology, provides a comprehensive range of solutions encompassing reactor designs, nuclear fuel products, and operational services that span the nuclear energy lifecycle.

Reed Clay, TNA President, emphasized Westinghouse's unparalleled expertise, noting that the companyás technology powers nearly half of the worldás operational nuclear plants, including four reactors at the South Texas Project and Comanche Peak. This partnership aims to ensure a reliable and safe nuclear energy future for Texas.

Westinghouse's AP1000 reactor, recognized for its fully passive safety systems and modular construction, is the only Generation III+ reactor currently operating. It boasts the smallest footprint per megawatt electric in the market, with six units achieving record operational performance globally. An additional twelve AP1000 reactors are under construction, with six more contracted.

Building on this technology, Westinghouse has introduced the AP300 small modular reactor (SMR), which utilizes proven engineering and supply chains to minimize deployment risks compared to other SMRs reliant on novel technologies. Additionally, the eVinci microreactor represents a significant innovation, functioning similarly to a battery and delivering continuous power for over eight years without refueling, adaptable for applications requiring between a few kilowatts to 5 megawatts.

Underlining Westinghouse's strategic expansion, the company also signed an agreement with Ukraine's Energoatom in July 2025 to bolster energy security through the establishment of a new assembly line for VVER-1000 fuel elements, further solidifying its global influence in nuclear energy solutions.

In conclusion, Westinghouse's collaboration with TNA positions the company to play a pivotal role in Texasás nuclear energy development, fostering a sustainable energy future for the state.
