Wien Energie Expands Renewable Energy Capacity with New Projects and Acquisitions
Wien Energie is significantly expanding its renewable energy capacity by adding 70 new photovoltaic systems, a hydroelectric power plant, and enhancing wind power output, following its acquisition of ImWind. This move has increased their power output to 900 megawatts, sufficient for over 950,000 households, with plans to reach 2,800 megawatts by 2040. The company aims to supply the entire Viennese transport sector with green electricity by 2030, targeting 1,800 megawatts of renewable capacity in collaboration with ImWind.

In 2025, Wien Energie accelerated its renewable energy investments, adding approximately 70 new photovoltaic systems, a new hydroelectric power plant, and enhancing its wind power capacity. Following the acquisition of ImWind, Wien Energie's power output reached 900 megawatts, sufficient for over 950,000 households.
By 2040, they aim to increase this capacity to 2,800 megawatts. The acquisition of ImWind added 52 wind plants, making Wien Energie one of Austria's top three wind power operators, with plans to double its wind capacity to 520 megawatts by 2026.
In 2025, Wien Energie also installed 70 photovoltaic systems, raising total capacity to around 235 megawatts. A new hydropower plant, Oppenberg, is under construction and will generate about 3,700 megawatt-hours annually. By 2030, Wien Energie and ImWind plan to reach 1,800 megawatts of renewable capacity, including supplying the entire Viennese transport sector with green electricity.
