Wilson Mwaniki bought a quarter-acre land near Sleeping Warrior Mountain in 2016 to build a debt-free, off-grid home using recycled materials. The two-bedroom house, completed in April 2023, was constructed from high-cube shipping containers and salvaged materials, costing between Sh5 million to Sh8 million.
Mwaniki designed the home to maximize rainwater harvesting and solar power, ensuring comfort comparable to urban living. He also plans to develop additional land into a small hospitality venture with guest cabins and a restaurant, focusing on preserving the area's natural tranquility.
