WindRunner: Italy's Largest Cargo Aircraft Project Advances with Global Partnerships
WindRunner, a cargo aircraft project by Radia, aims to transform Italy's aerospace industry and create over 4,000 jobs by 2030. Its innovative design will enable efficient transport of oversized components, significantly impacting renewable energy logistics.

The WindRunner project, developed by the American startup Radia, is set to become the largest cargo aircraft globally, measuring 108 meters in length and 24 meters in height. Construction will take place in Italy, where the fuselage will be built by Leonardo, landing gear by Magnaghi Aerospace, and wings by Aernnova.
The Italian Ministry of Enterprises supports this initiative under the ZES Unica framework, ensuring fiscal benefits and simplified procedures. Production is projected to commence in 2029, with a goal of delivering five aircraft annually starting in 2030.
WindRunner is also recognized in the U.S. National Defense Authorization Act for its strategic importance. This project could serve various sectors beyond wind energy, including humanitarian aid and military logistics, potentially reshaping regional industrial dynamics.
