Wing Marine Developing Modular Dredging System for U.S. Inland Waterways
Wing Marine is developing a modular dredging system aimed at enhancing maintenance for U.S. inland waterways, including navigation channels and reservoirs. Led by CEO Mel Friedman and President Peter Crossland, the system features a patented sediment-mobilization device combined with high-capacity pumping, allowing for quick transport and assembly on-site.
The dredge operates without disrupting waterway traffic, utilizing a controlled sediment wave to efficiently remove sediment while minimizing environmental impact. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has indicated the system's potential for reducing costs and downtime associated with traditional dredging methods.
Wing Marine plans to build its first operational units within 10 months, with a focus on reusing dredged material for various applications. The approach aligns with evolving sediment management priorities and has potential for broader applications beyond navigation channels.
