Winston City Council Workshop Reviews Current and Future Grant Opportunities Totaling Over $6 Million
The Winston City Council reviewed over $6 million in current and future grant opportunities during a recent workshop. Key highlights included a $4 million grant and loan package for sewer project upgrades from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality, a $946,200 grant to extend sewer lines, and a proposed $2 million Safe Routes to School grant for pedestrian safety improvements. The council also discussed potential future projects such as LED street light replacements and community center HVAC upgrades.

The Winston City Council held a workshop to assess current and future grant opportunities, with a focus on projects totaling over $6 million. City Manager Thomas McIntosh highlighted a $4 million grant and loan package from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for sewer project upgrades, including $2.5 million for a siphon replacement and $1.5 million for replacing the Abraham trunk line.
Additionally, a $946,200 grant from Business Oregon aims to extend sewer lines to support development. The council also discussed a $2 million Safe Routes to School grant for pedestrian safety improvements, requiring a 20% city match.
Other grants include funding from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood studies and a $55,000 grant for an Economic Opportunities Analysis. Future projects under consideration include LED street light replacements, HVAC upgrades for the community center, and improvements to the Winston Community Park.
