Woodside has approved a $17.5 billion LNG project in Louisiana, incorporating carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) as a future option. The company is not abandoning hydrocarbons but is instead building carbon infrastructure, including the Bonaparte CCS joint venture with Inpex and TotalEnergies, currently in pre-FEED.
Additionally, Woodside collaborates with Baker Hughes on technology targeting small-scale carbon capture for oil and gas operations. The success of these initiatives will depend on whether they reach final investment decision (FID) and secure offtake agreements. The next 18 months will be critical in determining if Woodside's commitments convert into construction.
