Woodside Energy Pursues Significant LNG Expansion Amidst Market Challenges
Australia's government has established a Future Gas Strategy, emphasizing LNG growth and domestic energy security until 2050. Woodside Energy is advancing its Scarborough and Louisiana LNG projects, targeting increased production despite recent operational setbacks.

Australia's Future Gas Strategy aims to position gas as a key component of the energy landscape through 2050, supporting LNG investment and domestic energy security. Woodside Energy, Australia's largest independent oil and gas producer, has two major LNG projects underway: Scarborough, set to deliver its first shipment in Q4 2026, and Louisiana LNG, expected in FY 2029.
Despite a 1.6% y/y revenue decline to USD 3.26 billion in Q1 2026, Woodside's sales volume increased by 3%. However, production fell 8% y/y, impacted by weather disruptions. Capital expenditures dropped to USD 1.3 billion. Analysts remain cautious, with a target price suggesting limited upside potential, while oil price fluctuations present significant risks for future revenues.
