Woolworths Launches Methane-Reducing Feed Additive Trial in Partnership with Sea Forest, DIT, and Teys Australia
Woolworths has initiated a commercial trial to evaluate paddock-based supplements aimed at reducing methane emissions in grassfed cattle. The project involves Sea Forest, which produces asparagopsis-based feed additives, Direct Injection Technologies for water medication, and beef processor Teys Australia.
This multi-year trial will test Sea Forest's SeaFeed supplement at a cattle property in New South Wales, utilizing both water-delivered and dry-lick formulations. The goal is to significantly lower methane emissions while improving productivity across the beef value chain.
Independent verification of trial results will align with global standards. Previous studies indicate SeaFeed can reduce livestock methane emissions by up to 80%. The partners will share findings with the broader industry to promote sustainable practices in cattle production.
