World's First MobED Autonomous Robot Demonstration Aboard Hyundai Dubai
On July 6, 2026, Korean Register, Hyundai Motor, Kia, HMM, HOS, and Gosung Engineering conducted the first onboard demonstration of the MobED autonomous mobile robot on the vessel Hyundai Dubai. This pilot project highlights the potential for autonomous robots in confined ship environments, particularly for tasks in cargo areas with restricted access.

The MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid), developed by Hyundai Motor and Kia, was demonstrated aboard the Hyundai Dubai, docked at CJ Logistics Jeokhyeon Pier, Changwon, South Korea. The demonstration showed MobED's capabilities in open cargo areas, completing autonomous navigation tasks, while low-speed navigation in confined passageways indicated the need for potential modifications for spatial constraints.
Each involved organization contributed specific expertise, with KR focusing on safety and regulatory compliance, and Gosung Engineering managing system integration. Future applications may include monitoring and material transport in areas like cargo zones with hazardous materials. The continued collaboration aims to enhance onboard robotics and smart ship ecosystems.
