World's Largest Geothermal Plant Launched in California
The U.S. has launched the world's largest geothermal power plant in California, capable of generating up to 1 GW of electricity. This project, utilizing enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), represents a significant advancement in renewable energy production and supports the transition to sustainable energy sources.

The newly commissioned geothermal power plant in California spans 900 MW with a projected output of 1 GW annually. This facility employs enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), enabling the extraction of previously unviable geothermal resources.
Expected to expand geothermal capacity in the U.S. to approximately 100,000 MW by 2050, the plant reflects a broader trend in renewable energy investment. The project, valued at $1 billion, utilizes 13 turbines, which can supply electricity to around 675,000 households.
The integration of EGS technology is crucial for improving reliability and meeting the growing demand for clean energy. Additional renewable projects like the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind are underway, showcasing the U.S. commitment to sustainable energy.
