The wreck of the US Coast Guard Cutter Tampa, lost during World War I with 131 crew members, was located by British divers 50 miles off the Cornwall coast. The find marks a significant historical moment, connecting the Coast Guard with the legacy of its fallen personnel and prompting plans for further exploration.

The US Coast Guard Cutter Tampa, lost in action during World War I, was discovered at a depth of 300 feet (91 meters) by the British Gasperados Dive Team. This marked the culmination of three years of research and exploration, with the wreck located approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) off the coast of Cornwall.
The Tampa sank on September 26, 1918, after being torpedoed by a German submarine, resulting in the loss of all 131 crew members, including 111 Coast Guardsmen. The Coast Guard is now planning further exploration of the wreck using autonomous systems and robotics.
