Wylfa SMR Support Under Review by Welsh Government
The Welsh Government's stance on the proposed small modular reactors at Wylfa is uncertain, despite significant potential benefits. The project could create up to 3,000 jobs and power three million homes, marking a major industrial investment in North Wales.

Wylfa has been designated as the site for the UK's first small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear power station, anticipated to support 3,000 local jobs at peak construction and supply power for three million homes. During a recent session, First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth was pressed for clarity on the administration's support for plans involving up to eight SMRs at the Anglesey site.
While Mr. ap Iorwerth emphasized the economic benefits, he noted that the matter is reserved for the UK Government and did not explicitly endorse the construction of the reactors. The development is expected to attract significant infrastructure investment and may help reduce reliance on imported energy, enhancing energy security.
