Yogi Adityanath's Government Cancels SP's Illegal Purvanchal Expressway Tender, Saving ₹3,400 Crore
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath criticized the previous SP government's handling of the Purvanchal Expressway tender, claiming it was illegal due to inadequate land acquisition. After cancelling the tender, the BJP government expanded the expressway's width and completed land acquisition, resulting in a revised project cost of ₹11,800 crore compared to the original ₹15,200 crore. The expressway, inaugurated in November 2021, connects multiple districts and features an airstrip for emergencies.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the cancellation of the previous Samajwadi Party (SP) government's illegal tender for the Purvanchal Expressway, citing insufficient land acquisition. After reviewing the project, the BJP government expanded the expressway width from 110 meters to 120 meters and acquired the necessary land over two years.
The updated project cost is ₹11,800 crore, down from ₹15,200 crore. Opened in November 2021, the expressway spans 341 kilometers and includes an emergency airstrip for the Indian Air Force. Adityanath emphasized the link between infrastructure and economic growth, asserting that Uttar Pradesh is becoming a significant economic hub.
