Zambia and US Expand $491M Grant for Critical Minerals Infrastructure Development
Zambia has partnered with the Millennium Challenge Corporation to expand a $491 million agriculture grant to enhance critical minerals infrastructure. This adjustment aims to strengthen Zambia's role in global supply chains for energy transition metals, particularly through the strategic Lobito Corridor.

Zambia has agreed with the Millennium Challenge Corporation to expand a $491 million agricultural grant to support critical minerals infrastructure. Originally aimed at agricultural development, the funding will now also improve infrastructure along the Lobito Corridor, which connects Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to Angola's Atlantic port.
The corridor is crucial for transporting copper and cobalt to Western markets. The African Finance Corporation is targeting financial close for the railway expansion in Q4 2027. Enhanced infrastructure will facilitate both agricultural market access and mineral exports, positioning Zambia as a vital player in the energy transition supply chain.
