Zambia Army Enhances Efforts Against Illegal Mining Amid Government Support
The Zambian government acknowledges the Army's role in combating illegal mining, emphasizing the need for accountability. This initiative is crucial for ensuring that mineral wealth translates into broader national development.

The Zambian Army has been commended for its actions against illegal mining, with Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe highlighting the necessity of structured development. Kabuswe noted that gold-rich regions must yield benefits like improved infrastructure and public services, but many remain underdeveloped due to illegal activities.
Lt Gen Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele reported the removal of illegal miners from Kikonge, although operations are currently suspended due to conditions. Enforcement will extend to Mpika, and foreign nationals are warned against illegal mining. The Army will maintain its presence until licensed operations resume.
