ZIB and HZB Collaborate on HPC and AI Data Center in Berlin
The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) have partnered to develop a new AI and HPC data center in Berlin. This initiative aims to enhance high-performance computing capabilities to support advanced scientific research, particularly in materials, health, and climate domains.

The Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB) and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) have initiated a partnership to create an AI and HPC data center in Berlin's Adlershof area. The first phase involves consolidating ZIB’s existing infrastructure while a new facility will be constructed at HZB's site.
This center will enhance computational resources for the scientific community, with future phases expected to add unspecified computing capacity based on demand. Current HPC resources at HZB include a small cluster with multiple Nvidia A40 and A100 GPUs.
ZIB has a long history in high-performance computing, currently operating two HLRN-III systems with significant computational capabilities. The collaboration is anticipated to bolster research efficiency and technological resilience in Europe.
