Zimbabwe Signs 25-Year Agreement for 30 MW Solar Plant Development
Vungu Solar Pvt Ltd has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) for a 30 MW solar power plant, signed on January 27 in Harare. This project is a pilot under Zimbabwe's Government Project Support Agreement aimed at attracting private solar investment.
The plant is expected to provide electricity to approximately 76,000 households and supports the national goal of universal electrification by 2030. The project is being developed by the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG) through its InfraCo platform, in collaboration with Energywise Equipment and Impala Power Company. Zimbabwe's National Energy Compact aims to increase renewable energy's share from 7.8% to 31% by 2030, driven by rising energy demand from sectors such as mining, agriculture, and industrialization.
