Zimbabwe's Path to Industrialization by 2030: Insights from Former Minister
Zimbabwe could achieve industrialization by 2030 with effective resource management and economic planning. Key strategies include establishing economic growth nods to leverage local resources for community benefits.

Zimbabwe aims to transition to an industrialized economy by 2030 if it effectively utilizes its natural resources, according to former Economic Planning Minister Tapuwa Mashakada. He emphasized the importance of economic planning and growth nods, which would enable communities to benefit from local resources, such as coal-bed methane in Lupane.
Mashakada pointed out the failure of the Tokwe-Mukorsi dam project, completed in 2013 at a cost of US$250 million, which lacked plans for irrigation or economic development. He noted the high demand for natural gas, citing Mozambique's US$6.3 billion investment by Total in the Carbo-del-Gardo region, highlighting the potential for Zimbabwe to attract similar investments. Proper planning is critical to harnessing resources effectively.
