Zorawar Light Tank Upgrade Achieves NATO-Level Armor Protection
The Zorawar light tank upgrade will meet NATO STANAG Level 5B and Level 6 armor standards, enhancing its survivability against 30mm APFSDS threats. This advancement is crucial for India's military capabilities in high-altitude combat zones, specifically countering modern infantry fighting vehicles and attack helicopters.

India's Zorawar light tank is undergoing significant upgrades to achieve NATO STANAG Level 5B and Level 6 armor protection, allowing it to resist 30mm APFSDS rounds. The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) has confirmed that this modernization addresses vulnerabilities inherent in light tanks, which are typically limited by weight constraints.
The tank will now feature enhanced resilience against advanced threats in contested regions such as Ladakh, where adversarial systems are present. The program, a collaboration between DRDO and Larsen & Toubro, incorporates advanced composite armor, Active Protection Systems (APS), and situational awareness technologies. With improvements in mobility and survivability, the Zorawar is set to strengthen India's defense posture against adversaries equipped with modern weaponry, reflecting a broader trend towards self-reliance in defense production.
