Zumwalt-class Destroyers Consider AN/SPY-6 Radar Upgrade
The U.S. Navy's Zumwalt-class destroyers may receive AN/SPY-6 radar systems, originally intended for the canceled Constellation-class frigates. This upgrade aligns with the Zumwalt Enterprise Upgrade Solution (ZEUS), aimed at enhancing naval capabilities.

The U.S. Navy is considering upgrading the radar systems of its Zumwalt-class destroyers from AN/SPY-3 to AN/SPY-6, initially developed for the now-canceled Constellation-class frigates. Current modifications include the removal of the forward AGS turret to install vertical launch systems for hypersonic glide vehicles, with USS Zumwalt completed and others in progress.
The ZEUS program, initiated in November 2022, aims to enhance various systems, including radar replacements. While the Constellation-class was canceled on November 25, 2025, components such as sonar systems are still being produced, indicating ongoing investment in naval capabilities despite program cancellations.
