100 TPD Biogas Plant Planned in Delhi to Address Yamuna Pollution
A new biogas plant with a capacity of 100 TPD will be established in north Delhi, targeting cattle waste management. This initiative aims to mitigate pollution in the Yamuna River and leverage rising biogas utilization due to increasing LPG costs.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) will submit a project proposal for a 100 TPD biogas plant to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Located on an eight-acre site between Bhalaswa and Jharoda dairies, the facility will serve approximately 6,000 cattle, aiming to process 50 tonnes per day from each dairy.
Experts indicate that domestic sewage accounts for 80% of Yamuna pollution, with dairy waste representing a manageable source. Transforming cattle waste into biogas can provide economic benefits amid rising LPG prices, although community awareness is essential for effective implementation. This project follows the establishment of a 200 TPD biogas plant at Nangli dairy in September.
