On March 8, 2026, a 184-tonne Supergrid Transformer will be delivered to the Harker substation near Carlisle, part of National Grid's upgrade project. The delivery, coordinated with local police and National Highways, will involve short rolling road closures but is expected to have minimal impact.
This transformer is the final of six deliveries over nine months, aimed at increasing the electricity network's capacity and resilience. Managed by Allelys, the delivery vehicle will take a planned route from Heysham Port, arriving late Sunday afternoon.
The project also includes upgraded overhead lines to ensure reliable energy supplies in the region. National Grid emphasized the Harker scheme's separation from its Cross Border Connection project.
