ABB to Provide Motor Control Solutions for Fervo Energy's Geothermal Project in Utah

GEOTHERMAL

ABB has signed an agreement with Fervo Energy to supply motor control solutions for the Cape Station geothermal project in Southwest Utah, which is expected to be the world's largest geothermal development by installed capacity. The project aims to deliver carbon-free power to the grid by late 2026, with plans to add approximately 100 MW by early 2027 and 400 MW thereafter.

Fervo Energy will utilize advanced drilling techniques to reduce surface footprint and access previously unreachable geothermal resources. ABB's supply includes medium voltage motor control equipment, over 80 drives, medium voltage motors, generators, low voltage motor control centers, medium voltage switchgear, and prefabricated eHouses for housing drive systems and related infrastructure.
