AI Designs RISC-V Processor in 12 Hours, Achieving Milestone for Semiconductor Industry
An AI system autonomously designed a complete RISC-V processor core in 12 hours, marking a significant industry milestone. This achievement highlights the potential for accelerated semiconductor development amidst rising global sales projections for 2026.

A fully autonomous AI system has designed a RISC-V processor core named VerCore, achieving this in just 12 hours. Created by Verkor.io using their Design Conductor tool, the processor features a five-stage pipeline architecture and a clock speed of 1.48 GHz.
Although it scored 3261 on CoreMark, indicating limited performance comparable to an entry-level Intel Celeron from 2011, it serves as a proof of concept. Currently, VerCore has only been validated through simulation, and physical production has yet to occur.
Verkor.io plans to release all design files by the end of the month, allowing external verification. The growing role of AI in hardware design promises to enhance innovation in the semiconductor sector.
