Air Force Contracts Beehive Industries for Disposable Engine Development
The U.S. Air Force has awarded a $29.7 million contract to Beehive Industries to develop disposable jet engines aimed at enhancing drone and missile capabilities. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to increase the production of affordable munitions and is backed by significant fiscal 2026 funding.

The Air Force's contract with Beehive Industries focuses on the Frenzy 8 engine, which can deliver thrust between 100-300 pounds, and the upcoming Frenzy 6 variant, set to provide 100 pounds of thrust. This contract is integral to the Family of Affordable Mass Missiles (FAMM) program, which has received $620 million for procurement and R&D.
Beehive, founded in 2020, employs additive manufacturing techniques, enabling rapid scaling of engine production, with an expected output of 3,000-5,000 engines by 2027. Concurrently, the Air Force is seeking $973 million for FAMM and $1.37 billion for Collaborative Combat Aircraft development in fiscal 2027. Flight testing for the Frenzy 8 is underway, with initial tests completed in 2025.
