Airbus to Introduce ROAAS for A220 Aircraft Starting in 2027
Airbus will introduce a Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS) for its A220-100 and A220-300 models starting in 2027, enhancing safety and compliance with ICAO guidelines. The system will calculate stopping distances and alert pilots if runway lengths are insufficient. Additionally, Airbus plans to increase the A220's Maximum Takeoff Weight and improve onboard connectivity by 2028, aiming for all aircraft to be compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel by 2030, while concerns about the feasibility of a stretched A220 variant persist.

Airbus will implement a Runway Overrun Awareness and Alerting System (ROAAS) for the A220-100 and A220-300 starting in 2027, making it the last Airbus model to receive this upgrade. The ROAAS aims to enhance safety and compliance with ICAO guidelines.
It calculates stopping distance on approach and alerts pilots if runway length is insufficient. Airbus also plans to increase the A220's Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) and enhance onboard connectivity by 2028, with a goal for all aircraft to be compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) by 2030. Concerns remain regarding the feasibility of a stretched A220 variant due to production costs and market viability.
