Algeria to Sustain Electricity Exports to Tunisia Amid Summer Demand Peaks
Algeria will continue electricity exports to Tunisia during peak summer demand in 2026, addressing Tunisia’s reliance on imported energy. The ongoing collaboration includes plans for a 1,400-MW gas-fired power plant and a power interconnection project with Libya.

Algeria confirmed its commitment to supply electricity to Tunisia in the summer of 2026, despite domestic grid pressures. This decision follows discussions between Algerian Energy Minister Mourad Adjal and Tunisia's STEG, focusing on a 1,400-MW gas-fired power plant and a power interconnection project involving Libya.
In 2023, Tunisia imported 64.3% of its natural gas, with natural gas constituting nearly 95% of its electricity generation. Additionally, Algeria has enhanced its energy partnerships in Africa, with ongoing projects in Niger and Chad. The sustained energy cooperation is crucial for Tunisia's energy security, particularly given its reliance on Algerian resources.
