Amani Africa II Exercise Advances African Standby Force Operational Readiness
The Amani Africa II exercise, involving over 5,400 personnel, commenced to evaluate the African Standby Force's readiness. The exercise aims to prepare a 25,000-strong multinational force for intervention in crises across Africa, with full operational capability expected by early 2016.

The Amani Africa II field training exercise began at the Army Combat Training Centre, engaging over 5,400 troops and police. Conducted by the African Union, it assesses the African Standby Force's (ASF) readiness and Rapid Deployment Capability (RDC), targeting operational capability by early 2016.
Contributions included 1,220 personnel from SADC and 2,116 from the Africa Capacity for Immediate Response Crises (ACIRC). To fully operationalize the ASF, the AU requires completion of legal arrangements and a funding commitment, with an estimated $1 billion needed to establish the force.
Analysts caution that reliance on donor funding may limit operational scope. The exercise aims to develop African solutions to regional security issues.
