Armenia and Georgia to Connect Power Systems with 1050 MW Capacity Project
The Armenian government approved the Caucasus Power Grid EU NPF Phase II grant agreement, aiming to connect Armenia and Georgia's power systems. A high-voltage converter station with a capacity of 1050 MW will be constructed near the Georgian border. The electricity exchange capacity will increase from 200 MW to 350 MW initially, with a potential rise to 1050 MW based on market demand. The project's budget amounts to 188.75 million euros, with an estimated implementation cost of 542.75 million euros by November 2024.

The Armenian government approved the Caucasus Power Grid EU NPF Phase II grant agreement to connect Armenia and Georgia's power systems. A 500/400/220 kV high-voltage direct current converter station near Ayrum (Armenia) will have a capacity of 1050 MW.
The connection includes a 500 kV overhead line from Marneuli in Georgia and a 400 kV line from Ddmashen in Armenia. The electricity exchange capacity will increase from 200 MW to 350 MW initially, with future potential to reach 1050 MW. The project's budget is 188.75 million euros, with an updated implementation cost of 542.75 million euros by November 2024.
