Australia's Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle Program Faces Challenges
The Australian National Audit Office reports issues with the Hanwha Aerospace AS21 Redback infantry fighting vehicle program, indicating a shift from initial procurement intentions. The Australian Army reduced its order from 450 to 129 vehicles, raising integration and scheduling risks.

The Australian National Audit Office released findings on March 31 highlighting problems within the Land 400 Phase 3 program for the Hanwha Aerospace AS21 Redback infantry fighting vehicle. The Australian Army's decision to cut its order from 450 to 129 vehicles has raised concerns about integration risks and project timelines.
Technical issues emerged in October 2025, potentially causing significant delays related to system integration requirements from the Department of Defence. The delivery of new Elbit MT-30 turrets and their integration with EOS R400 RWS remote weapon stations has also been delayed. While the program is not currently deemed at risk, delays and cost increases are anticipated.
