Australia's Southern Launch Supports NASA's Artemis II Lunar Mission
Australia is contributing to NASA's Artemis II lunar mission by tracking the Orion capsule with its TALON dish. This involvement highlights the nation's role in advancing space exploration and the potential for future lunar landings by 2028.

Southern Launch, based in South Australia, is tracking NASA's Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II mission using its TALON telemetry dish at Koonibba Test Range. This mission marks the first crewed lunar flight since 1972, involving four astronauts aboard the Orion capsule.
The Parkes telescope, known as Murriyang, will also assist in tracking Orion. Southern Launch's technology utilizes the Doppler signal from Orion to calculate its speed, transmitting data to NASA via Raven Defense.
Australia's participation is seen as a strategic opportunity for its space industry, with potential lunar landings planned by 2028. The region's open spaces are suitable for operations, minimizing air and maritime traffic disruptions.
