Baker Hughes and CTR Partner to Develop 500 MW Geothermal Energy Project in California

Controlled Thermal Resources (CTR) and Baker Hughes have entered into definitive agreements to develop a substantial geothermal energy project at Hell's Kitchen in Imperial County, California, targeting an impressive 500 megawatts of baseload capacity. This strategic move comes in response to the rising energy demands of hyperscale data centers and artificial intelligence infrastructures, which require a steady and reliable power supply.

The staged development of the Hell's Kitchen project is poised to deliver uninterrupted clean energy around the clock, bolstering job creation and enhancing the resilience of the U.S. energy grid. Following thorough geological assessments and reservoir simulations by Baker Hughes, the project's long-term viability has been confirmed, setting the stage for groundbreaking advancements in renewable energy.

Rod Colwell, CEO of CTR, emphasized the critical juncture at which America's digital economy stands, highlighting the inadequacy of intermittent renewable sources to meet the burgeoning needs of AI and data centers.
