Battolyser and VDL Hydrogen Merge to Form Alquion for Alkaline Electrolyser Development
The merger of Battolyser Systems and VDL Hydrogen Systems into Alquion aims to enhance green hydrogen production technology. This initiative is crucial for scaling electrolyser systems that incorporate internal electricity storage, which can adapt to fluctuating renewable energy sources.

Battolyser Systems and VDL Hydrogen Systems have merged to form Alquion, with plans for a 0.5MW demonstration unit installation in May 2026. The merger combines over 50 employees and aims to commercialize electrolyser technology featuring internal electricity storage.
Alquion's Flexolyser technology allows for flexibility in operation, producing green hydrogen while adjusting to renewable energy fluctuations. VDL Groep will handle assembly of the stacks. The new company anticipates reducing green hydrogen production costs by up to 25%, supporting optimal use of offshore wind potential in the Netherlands. The intermittent operation strategy is projected to be essential for achieving unsubsidized green hydrogen production in Europe over the next decade.
