Bhubaneswar Launches CBG Plant to Enhance Waste Management
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is establishing a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Nayapalli to process 300 tonnes of waste daily. This initiative aims to significantly reduce the burden on the city's Temporary Transfer Station and enhance urban sanitation.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is developing a compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Nayapalli, set to process 300 tonnes of waste per day. This facility, part of a collaboration with Oil India Limited, will produce approximately 13 tonnes of biogas daily and aims to reduce waste load at the city's Temporary Transfer Station, currently handling about 470 tonnes of waste.
The project, mooted in 2024, spans 10 acres and is expected to create around 60 direct jobs in various operational roles. The city's total municipal solid waste generation is around 800 tonnes daily. In addition, the BMC plans to produce biomass briquettes from green waste, generating further clean fuel and revenue through a royalty agreement with a private agency.
