Biomethane Plant Proposal in Lostock Gralam Involves Significant Waste Transport
A biomethane plant in Lostock Gralam plans to import 177,000 tonnes of food waste annually, leading to nearly 200 daily lorry movements. This redevelopment aims to utilize anaerobic digestion to generate gas for over 10,000 homes.

Northwich Biogas Ltd has submitted plans to transform the Renescience Northwich facility into an anaerobic digestion plant, potentially importing 177,000 tonnes of industrial food waste per year. This will result in approximately 200 lorry movements daily from Monday to Friday, and 38 on Saturdays.
The plant aims to produce biomethane for the gas grid, heating over 10,000 homes annually. Current site permissions allow for the import of 144,000 tonnes of waste by road. The proposal faces logistical challenges due to a low railway bridge limiting access routes, while the Lostock Sustainable Energy Plan is expected to add another 262 lorry movements daily.
