Bollinger Secures $95 Million for U.S. Navy Navajo-Class Rescue Ships
Bollinger Shipyards Lockport LLC has received a $95 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy for the construction of Navajo-class Towing, Salvage, and Rescue Ships. This funding, part of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, supports shipyard operations and is tied to the national effort to enhance American shipbuilding capacity.

The U.S. Navy has awarded a $95 million contract modification to Bollinger Shipyards for the ongoing construction of Navajo-class ships, with work expected to complete by January 2030. The contract is funded under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allocates defense appropriations to American shipbuilding revitalization.
Bollinger's operations in Houma, Louisiana, and Pascagoula, Mississippi, will manage 12% and 88% of the work, respectively. The Navajo-class ships will replace the aging Safeguard-class and Powhatan-class vessels, consolidating multiple missions into a single platform.
The lead vessel, USNS Navajo, was completed in August 2023, and subsequent ships are under construction, with names honoring Native American nations. This initiative reflects the Navy's strategy to enhance operational capabilities and flexibility in various maritime missions.
