Brazil and China's Industrial Strategy for Ethanol and Electrolyser Production
Brazil's ethanol production could reach 30 million tons annually, emphasizing the need for industrial investment. Meanwhile, China's BriHyNergy plans a 1GW electrolyser capacity expansion in Europe and South America, highlighting the growing demand for low-carbon technologies.

Brazil's ethanol production potential is projected at 30 million tons annually, exceeding the U.S. output of 15 million tons. Key challenges include scaling production and ensuring investment in value-added industrial processes.
In parallel, Chinese manufacturer BriHyNergy is expanding its electrolyser production capacity by 1GW, funded by a RMB 20bn ($2.9bn) investment from Shenzhen Energy Storage Fund. This expansion aims to enhance support for global green hydrogen projects.
South America, particularly Brazil and Chile, is bolstering its hydrogen production capabilities, but faces a disparity between electrolyser capacity and actual project deployment, with only 2.15GW operational against 61GW in manufacturing. This scenario underscores the critical need for Brazil to strengthen its industrial base in clean energy technologies.
