Cargill has financed a 2.58 megawatt solar array at its Newcastle Crush Plant in Australia, aimed at enhancing sustainability and supply chain resilience. The installation, comprising over 4,000 panels, is expected to generate more than 4,200 megawatt hours of electricity annually, sufficient to meet peak demand at the facility and reduce electricity costs by an estimated $600,000.

This marks Cargill's first solar initiative in Australia, complementing similar projects in Europe and North America. The company has set a target to reduce emissions by 25% by 2035 and is considering battery storage for continuous renewable energy operation. Other food manufacturers, such as Riverina Oils and JBS Australia, are also investing in solar and bioenergy projects to improve sustainability and reduce reliance on grid energy.
