Chestnut Run Energy Proposes $2 Billion Natural Gas Plant in Carroll County, Ohio
Chestnut Run Energy plans to construct a $2 billion natural gas plant in Ohio, expected to power 900,000 homes. Construction may start this year, creating 500 construction jobs and 20 permanent positions with operations projected to begin in mid-2030.

Chestnut Run Energy aims to develop a natural gas-powered electric plant in Carroll County, Ohio, with a capacity of 1,300 megawatts, sufficient to supply electricity for up to 900,000 homes. The project will utilize combined-cycle gas turbine technology and is anticipated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 65% compared to coal and 35% compared to traditional natural gas generators.
Public hearings by the Ohio Power Siting Board are scheduled for May 21 and June 3 to assess community feedback and project viability. Construction is expected to start by late 2026, with a 2.2-mile transmission line and switchyard being integrated into the regional power system managed by PJM Interconnection. The project may influence local energy dynamics and employment opportunities significantly.
