China Aims to Reduce Hydrogen Prices to €3/kg to Boost FCEV Market by 2030
The Chinese government has issued a directive to promote hydrogen use across industries, targeting a reduction in hydrogen prices for consumers. Plans include doubling the fleet of fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) to 100,000 by 2030. Selected city clusters will receive up to 1.6 billion Yuan (approximately €200 million) for pilot programs aimed at establishing a comprehensive hydrogen energy value chain. The goal is to lower consumer hydrogen prices to under 25 Yuan per kilogram, with potential prices as low as 15 Yuan (€1.90/kg) in favorable regions.

The Chinese government aims to enhance hydrogen commercial use, targeting a doubling of the FCEV fleet to 100,000 by 2030. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced that selected city clusters will pilot hydrogen projects, supported by up to 1.6 billion Yuan each.
The government seeks to reduce hydrogen prices for consumers to below 25 Yuan per kilogram, with a target of 15 Yuan in certain areas. The initiative also explores applications for green ammonia, methanol, and hydrogen-based materials, positioning hydrogen as a key driver for economic growth and green transformation.
