China Proposes Shipbuilding Collaboration with South Korea Amidst US Competition
China, leading in global shipbuilding orders at 53%, seeks collaboration with South Korea, the second at 39%. This partnership aims to enhance competitiveness against the U.S. and leverage each country's manufacturing strengths.

China's proposal for shipbuilding cooperation with South Korea aims to enhance both nations' positions in the industry and counter U.S. initiatives. As of March, China held a 53% share of global shipbuilding orders, while South Korea had 39%, indicating a significant narrowing of the gap.
The two countries are seen as complementary, with China excelling in mass production and South Korea specializing in advanced ship designs. Potential collaboration could involve joint R&D and sharing of technology to strengthen both industries.
This cooperation may also be a strategy to mitigate the competitive pressure from the U.S. following the MASGA project and partnerships like Hanwha Ocean's involvement with U.S. Navy vessels.
