CITUB President Advocates for Black Sea Hydrogen Sulfide as Energy Resource
CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov highlights hydrogen sulfide in the Black Sea as a significant energy opportunity. He calls for EU funding to support regional stability and energy security amid rising costs due to the Ukraine conflict.
At a conference in Varna, CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov stated that hydrogen sulfide in the Black Sea should be considered a potential energy resource. He emphasized Bulgaria's strategic position to lead in the region, especially with the planned maritime security hub at the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy.
Dimitrov called for increased EU funding to ensure the Black Sea strategy is effective, warning that without it, the initiative may lack substance. He also urged Bulgaria and Romania to advocate for EU recognition of the Black Sea as a military-risk zone to secure additional funding. The ongoing war in Ukraine is impacting energy prices and transport costs, with Bulgaria's electricity exports to Ukraine straining the regional energy system.
