CMA and bvse Oppose Sliding Scale for Green Steel Label
CMA and bvse advocate for a European Green-Steel-Label based on actual emissions, rejecting the Sliding Scale approach. They emphasize that true environmental performance must be measurable and not allow for greenwashing.

CMA Circular Metal Association and bvse have urged the EU Commission to establish a credible Green-Steel-Label that reflects genuine climate benefits and supports circular economy initiatives. They oppose the Sliding Scale method, which adjusts emissions thresholds based on the proportion of scrap steel used, arguing it could mistakenly classify higher-emission steel as 'green.'
The associations stress that a proper label must be rooted in verifiable Product Carbon Footprints, and that the recycling of steel is a crucial strategy for emission reduction. They call for the exclusion of Sliding Scale methods from public procurement and related policies, advocating instead for a framework that recognizes the importance of recycled materials in decarbonization efforts.
