CMA CGM Expands Methanol Fleet; Marks & Spencer Boosts Bio-CNG Logistics
CMA CGM has received its fourth dual-fuel methanol container ship, CMA CGM Esmeralda, enhancing its fleet amid rising demand for methanol-powered vessels. Meanwhile, Marks & Spencer is set to increase its bio-CNG vehicle count by over 300 by March 2027 as part of its emissions reduction strategy.

CMA CGM has taken delivery of the CMA CGM Esmeralda, a 15,000 TEU dual-fuel methanol container ship, marking its fourth vessel in this series. This aligns with the industry's trend towards methanol-fuelled newbuilds, necessitating increased availability of green methanol at ports.
Concurrently, Marks & Spencer aims to expand its logistics fleet with over 300 additional bio-CNG vehicles by March 2027, enhancing its low-emission transport capabilities. The retailer has partnered with CNG Fuels to establish Mobile Refueling Stations (MRS) for bio-CNG supply to support this fleet growth.
In the LNG sector, global orders for LNG carriers are expected to reach 90-100 this year, spurred by LNG production increases and efficiency demands, despite potential disruptions from geopolitical tensions. The industry is navigating a balance between new orders and the impact of factors like the US-Iran war on shipping demand and freight rates.
